Immigration settings

Changes to immigration settings will help the sector to address immediate skills shortages while long term development of New Zealand’s domestic work force occurs.

The proposed changes will cover establishing the Construction and Infrastructure Skill Shortage List to expedite the visa approvals process to fill specific roles; an employer accreditation or alternative pre-approval model to enable good construction sector employers to recruit overseas; and imposing specific requirements on labour hire companies to manage the risk of migrant exploitation.

This initiative is led by Immigration New Zealand, part of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
