Central Region Skills Hub

The Central Skills Hub provides the bridge between employers and jobseekers by providing access to skills and knowledge for regional projects to succeed.

The Central Region (Manawatu, Tararua) is currently engaged in several large infrastructure projects. The Central Skills Hub will help to bridge the gap between employers and prospective employees by providing access to skills and knowledge to enable the regional projects to access the skills and talent required to succeed. The Central Skills Hub will be initially focussed on filling the employment need for the Te Ahu a Turanga: Manawatū Dannevirke highway. The Central Skills Hub will help to ensure local people are given the opportunity to obtain employment before the contractors look outside the region.

The Central Skills Hub opened for business in July 2020. The first "Taster Programme" was delivered in September with 8 participants spending 10 days meeting employers, providers, and educators. Visits to Civil Construction sites made up the balance programme with 4 participants gaining employment with employers they met during the programme.

We are now providing the bridge between employers and jobseekers with programmes ramping up through November and January as more job opportunities become available in early 2021.
